The wildcards * and ? may be used in tag names to assign the same value to multiple tags. When specified with wildcards, "unsafe" tags are not written. A tag name of All is equivalent to * (except that it doesn't require quoting, while arguments with wildcards do on systems with shell globbing), and is often used when deleting all metadata (ie. -All=) or an entire group (eg. -XMP-dc:All=, see note 4 below). Note that not all groups are deletable, and that the JPEG APP14 "Adobe" group is not removed by default with -All= because it may affect the appearance of the image. However, color space information is removed, so the colors may be affected (but this may be avoided by copying back the tags defined by the ColorSpaceTags shortcut). Use the -listd option for a complete list of deletable groups, and see note 5 below regarding the "APP" groups. Also, within an image some groups may be contained within others, and these groups are removed if the containing group is deleted: exiftool is a command line tool that allows you to change and manipulate the EXIF metadata of images. On macOS you can easily install it with: ExifTool lets you generate a text output file for each photo and creates MIE (metadata-only) files for backup purposes. The original image file will be automatically backed up when writing new meta information. The output files can be easily organized into groups for better management and easier access. tar -xzf cd Image-ExifTool-#.## perl make test sudo make install where "#.##" is the version number of the ExifTool you downloaded. ExifTool 9.79 and later allow the file name encoding to be specified with -charset filename=CHARSET, where CHARSET is the name of a valid ExifTool character set, preferably UTF8 (see the -charset option for a complete list). Setting this triggers the use of Windows wide-character i/o routines, thus providing support for most Unicode file names (see note 4). But note that it is not trivial to pass properly encoded file names on the Windows command line (see for details), so placing them in a UTF-8 encoded -@ argfile and using -charset filename=utf8 is recommended if possible. There is still much unknown information in the maker notes for many camera models. (To see this information, run exiftool with the -U option.) In this area, ExifTool is very much a collaborative effort, and development relies heavily on the input from camera owners to help decode new meta information. If you manage to figure out what any of it means, send me an e-mail (phil at ) and I'll add your new discoveries to ExifTool. Many thanks to all who have helped so far... You can have multiple preview windows of different photos open at the same time. (none)
